Basic Life Insurance
Employer-Paid Life Insurance & AD&D Coverage
Life can be unpredictable. That's why The Bishop's School provides employer-paid Life Insurance and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) coverage to help protect you and your loved ones from financial hardship in the event of a serious illness, accident, or loss.
Automatic Coverage at No Cost to You
As a benefits-eligible employee, you are automatically enrolled in Basic Life Insurance and AD&D coverage provided by The Bishop's School. Coverage is equal to:
- 1 times your annual earnings, up to a maximum benefit of $200,000.
This valuable protection is fully funded by the School, giving you peace of mind without any payroll deductions.
Basic Life Insurance
Life insurance provides financial support to your designated beneficiaries in the event of your death. These funds can help your loved ones manage expenses such as:
- Mortgage or housing costs
- Daily living expenses
- Education expenses
- Outstanding debts
- Final expenses and funeral costs
This benefit is designed to help provide financial security when it is needed most.
Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) Coverage
AD&D insurance provides an additional benefit if you experience a covered accidental injury or loss of life. Benefits may be payable for:
- Accidental loss of life
- Loss of a limb
- Loss of sight
- Other covered accidental injuries
AD&D benefits are paid according to plan provisions and are provided in addition to other applicable insurance coverage you may have.
Accelerated Benefit for Terminal Illness
If you are diagnosed with a qualifying terminal illness, you may be eligible to receive a portion of your life insurance benefit before death. This benefit can provide additional financial flexibility during a difficult time and may be used however you choose. Any remaining benefit will be paid to your beneficiaries in accordance with the plan provisions.
Keep Your Beneficiaries Up to Date
One of the most important steps you can take is to ensure your beneficiary information remains current.
We recommend reviewing your beneficiary designations whenever you experience a major life event, including:
- Marriage or divorce
- Birth or adoption of a child
- Death of a beneficiary
- Significant family changes
Keeping your elections current helps ensure benefits are distributed according to your wishes.
- When Coverage Ends
Coverage generally ends when your employment with The Bishop's School ends or as otherwise outlined in the plan documents. In some situations, you may have the opportunity to convert your group life insurance coverage to an individual policy. To preserve this option, action must typically be taken within 30 days after employment ends.
If you would like information regarding conversion or portability options, please contact Human Resources.
Protecting What Matters Most
Employer-paid life and AD&D coverage are important parts of your overall benefits package, helping provide financial protection and peace of mind for you and your family throughout your career at The Bishop's School.
